Why I want to represent you...

Emilie and Paddy1As you may have read in the local paper, our Labour MP Paddy Tipping has announced he will retire at this year’s General Election. Paddy Tipping has been your MP for the last 18 years and I know many people in the Sherwood constituency will miss him.

My name is Emilie Oldknow and I am Labour’s candidate for the General Election, hoping to take over from Paddy.

I’m a local lass who was born in Rainworth and went to school in Ravenshead. I have lived the majority of my life in Sherwood.

I want to stand up and fight for local families, pensioners and for the hard working people across Sherwood who play by the rules. My message to local people in Sherwood is simple: I’m on your side. That’s why I want to represent you.

I want to know your views

Please take a few moments to tell me about your hopes and concerns for Sherwood in the future - whether it's on the economy and securing jobs in the area, or maintaining and improving our public services such as schools and the NHS or making sure we have proper transport links. I want to know your views.

My priorities

As your MP my priorities for our area would be:

1)To fight against crime

2)To fight for more affordable housing

3)To fight for our pensioners

4)To fight for jobs

5)To fight for better public services and oppose Tory cuts to services

Emilie Oldknow's personal contract with you

1.    Be here for local people all year round

I know you want an MP who you can contact easily. To make sure you know where to raise your concerns and to ensure you are listened to:

I WILL

•    Have a fully staffed local office which is accessible to the public
•    Hold regular surgeries across the whole constituency.
•    Make house calls to the elderly and infirm.
•    Hold regular meetings with community groups.

2.    Integrity

To make sure you know this is about what I can give, not what I can take:

I WILL

•    Be a full time MP and never have a second job or income.
•    Publish any expenses incurred online and in my annual report.

3.    Your local voice

To make sure you know what I’m doing to stand up for you and get a fairer deal for Sherwood:

I WILL

•    Hold regular public meetings with residents on local issues
•    I will send out twice yearly constituency reports, so you know what I am doing in our community
•    I will have an interactive website, so you can easily get in touch and let me know your views.

I will never be Westminster’s voice in Sherwood. I will always be Sherwood’s voice in Westminster.

All I ask from you is the chance to serve our community.
